Sometimes ice cream tastes better when you go out to a parlor for it. Yeah, they are a little pricy, but it's good cream! The staff are all polite and friendly and their establishment is always clean. I like their peppermint ice-cream when they stock it for the Christmas holidays, so yeah, they're so good we go there even in the winter! To quote one of their posters: "We live but once. To hell with the diet!"

This place has NO BATHROOM or washing facilities for its patrons. Sticky dripping ice cream and children is not a good combination. Gross. It's stressful having to walk aimlessly down Jefferson with crying children who have to go to the bathroom urgently. Go elsewhere!

They have a great selection... My family loves that they have both soft serve and hard packed I've cream because it makes everyone happy! The shop is cute inside and everyone is always very nice. BUT... The prices are too high and very small portions for the hard packed ice cream. I usually get a single scoop and its barely a scoop. If you get it in a cup it seems like they serve it in a lid to make it look like more... And over $3 just for a single scoop! I can get a whole carton for $5... Seems way too high especially when you can go elsewhere and get a scoop that looks like 3. So for soft serve they can compete but not for the hard packed stuff, which happens to be my favorite!

Poor excuse for ice cream shop. Overpriced, do not fill cones, kid size portions considered a double at the cost of $5.25 and staff was not even able to answer question on price for slushies. Don't waste your time or money.

Good Selection, Great ice cream. Painfully over priced for what you get. I'm not saying I expect a super-sized cone when ordering a single scoop, but something not pathetic would be nice. Been here several times over the years hoping for a change... We have been disappointed every time. There are several competitors in the area that have the same product but at a significantly better value. Not worth it.

My dad grew up getting ice cream from this place so I wanted to check it out myself. It is a great hard packed ice cream shop. Any place that has a peanut butter ice cream is always going to get an extra star from me. It is right across from the water, but there isn't a great way to walk to the lake from there, which is too bad. They do all the standards of an ice cream shop, sundaes, malts & shakes. They staff was young but well trained. They were all fast, fun and friendly. It has the small mom and pop type store you want to support, because it helps make the area unique. There are a few soft serve places on Harper a few miles away, but this is the only hard-packed place I am aware of in the area. To Recap The Good: Place is a local institution that has been around for decades. They have a great variety of ice cream flavors and do a great job with shakes. The Bad: The place does feel a little dated, but it kinda of adds to the charm of the place. The Band This Establishment Most Resembles: The Lovin' Spoonful. Go get a big scoop of this local classic!

I don't go to Mastro's much anymore, but we used to come here all the time when I was younger, so I'm a bit sentimental about it. The ice cream is delicious, though not the cheapest. Though my favorite, forever and always, is the chocolate malt.

Ice cream is great but i will go out of my way

OK so I try to justify eating 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream with peanut butter by riding my bike here! HA! So it seems ok at the time I do it! This place is in a nice location, all the people who work there are so nice and they have the best ice cream ever! I have been going here for years and will continue to. if you are in the area stop in and get a scopp or 2 of you fav and enjoy!

It's a cute place, good selection but way overpriced. Twice as much as the two other places to go for icecream close to me, and those places give you more for less! Not going back, can't afford it.

I went here with my husband and daughter when we first moved to the area. It looked like a quaint, local place which is exactly the kind of place that I like. In short, the ice cream was good, not particularly exciting. I didn't see anything on the menu that I couldn't get at absolutely any other ice cream shop.

Scoop ice cream? Banana splits? Yeah, Mastros' has got it. Indoor dining area so you can eat your treat without it melting? Yep. Restrooms? No way. (isn't that illegal?) Parking? Way in the back (side lot is closed allegedly because the owner doesn't like that people may park there and also shop at the Wine Dock party store next door). Good ice cream, but awful "neighborhood" experience. Corporate giants have more soul than this place.

With the advent of such ice cream joints as Ben and Jerry's, Cold Stone Creamery and so on, the ma and pop ice cream parlor has taken the backseat to the corporate guys. Thank goodness for St. Clair Shores' Mastro's. Located on the Nautical Mile(alongside the Detroit River), this ice cream parlor offers customers ice cream just like back in the day. Although they have such flavors as coffee and superman, Mastro's is known for such classics like the banana splits and their hand dipped shakes and malts. I have many memories of loading up the car, dog and all and making the drive, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the River, on the way, to Mastro's. This gem has picnic tables outside so you can enjoy your treat in lovely summer weather, while your pup roams the grassy knoll. This is the perfect place for a family outing or a quick after dinner yum yum. The prices are fantastic, compared to the chains where you buy a waffle cone of frozen milk for 10 bucks! So, take some time out, make a drive along the river, and come fill your belly with a tasty treat from Mastro's!

I used to come here all the time as a child with my family, order a scoop of blue moon, superman, or a hot fudge sundae, and sit out on the picnic benches outside. I will always remember the time I got my ice cream and proceeded to immediately drop it on the floor. The owner had a new scoop in front of me before I even knew what happened. Prices have risen over the years, but the staff is still friendly and the ice cream is some of the best in the area.

Awesome hard ice cream parlor. Free tastes! Very good sorbets as well, but my favorite was always the coffee ice cream. Yum.
